Up for auction is a wonderful Victorian etiquette book entitled The Young Man's Counsellor: or, Sketches and Illustrations of the Duties and Dangers of Young Men, designed to be a guide to success in this life, and to happiness in the life to come, by Rev Daniel Wise AM. Published by Carlton & Phillips, NY, 1854. 264 pages + hard bound cover. Contents includes, integrity, intelligence, economy & tact, harmony of character, vices (seductions, allurements, consequences), courtship, marriage and much more. A nice deportment reference.
Good overall condition for age. Cover is stained with wear. Edges and corners rubbed, spine frayed at head and tail. Text foxed throughout, inscription ffep with embossed stamp, text crisp, binding tight, a bit musty smelling. It measures 4 7/8" x 7" x 1 1/4".
